Minimum requirements for the faculty ranks are published in the Faculty Handbook. Each college, school or department is responsible for developing and publishing its own set of criteria for faculty promotion consistent with policies of the University of Memphis, the Tennessee Board of Regents, and in the Faculty Handbook , but tailored to the demands of specific disciplines and specializations. Departmental criteria are to be approved by the departmental faculty, chair, dean, provost, and president. College criteria are to be approved by the dean, provost, and president. Written guidelines are available in hard copy and electronically in each college, school, or department, and distributed to faculty when they join the college, school, or department and when they apply for promotion.
