THE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS OPERATING PROCEDURE SUBJECT: UNIVERSITY RECOGNITION OF RELIGIOUS PROFESSIONALS AS ASSOCIATE STAFF/CHAPLAIN PROCEDURE NO: 2E:16:02B DATE: August 30, 1989 SUPERSEDES PROCEDURE NO: 2E:16:02B DATED: February 26, 1982 Associate Staff/Chaplain Appointment Criteria 1. Appointment to ministry at The University of Memphis must be by legitimate authority (as determined by individual's own religious tradition) which has a currently active registered student organization in the University. 2. Ministry to the University community must be the majority of his professional concern. Majority of professional concern is defined as spending at least 50% of full time in ministry at The University of Memphis campus. 3. Personal qualifications must include an undergraduate degree which is pertinent to duties at The University of Memphis. Appointment Process 1. The "Religious Professional's Credential Form" may be obtained and must be returned to the Office of Religious Affairs. 2. A letter of appointment must come from one's appointment agency, and sent to the Office of Religious Affairs. 3. Approval of status will be made by the Advisor for Religious Affairs in consultation with the Religious Activities Policy Committee. 4. Religious professionals may resign from their status at any time by notifying the Office of Religious Affairs in writing. 5. There will be a semester review of the activities of the religious professionals conducted by the Office of Religious Affairs for the Religious Activities Policy Committee, and the Vice-President for Student Educational Services. Privileges Credentialed persons will be issued an identification card by the University and will have the following privileges: 1. Access to the University Campus consistent with responsibilities as a professional religious worker. 2. Access to the University library facilities. 3. Check cashing privileges at the University Bursar's office. 4. Parking privileges (same as lower division) upon purchase of permit. 5. Access to HPER recreational facilities. Responsibilites 1. Support of the functions of The University of Memphis religious life. 2. Professional conduct in all duties. 3. Adherence to the policies of the University. 4. Assist the staff of Student Educational Services as requested. 5. Meet with Religious Affairs Advisor each semester for review of activities.
