Becky Bocz is an Associate Professor of Physical Education Teacher Education in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Memphis. She earned her B.S. in Education, Physical Education in 2008 and her M.S. in Health and Sport Sciences in 2013, both from the University of Memphis.
She began her career in physical education in 2013, teaching high school physical education and Lifetime Wellness at Munford High School. In 2014, she transitioned to elementary physical education at E.E. Jeter K–8 School, where she also served as cheer coach/sponsor and middle school volleyball coach.
In 2017, Becky joined the faculty at the University of Memphis. She currently teaches Introduction to Physical Education, Sport and Fitness; Psychosocial Aspects of Sport; Psychosocial Aspects of Exercise; Teaching PE and Health for K–6; Exceptional Learners in Physical Education; Individual Fitness Teaching; Instructional Strategies; Learner Assessment; Internship Mentor; Residency Practicum I and II; and Walking for Fitness. She also serves as a residency supervisor, faculty advisor for the PETE Majors Club, Teacher Education Coordinator for the PETE department, and as a member of the Undergraduate Council and Teacher Education Accreditation (TEAC) committees.
Becky has been an active member of the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD) since 2006. She was elected General Division Vice President–Elect in 2019 and went on to serve as Vice President (2020–2021), Past Vice President (2022), Archivist and President-Elect (2023), President (2024), and currently serves as Past President (2025).
One of her goals as a professor is to prepare future educators to motivate students to be physically active, develop and maintain healthy lifestyles, and work cooperatively with others. She emphasizes building strong relationships and using a variety of teaching strategies to support student learning. She strongly believes in incorporating the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model into physical education, helping students learn sportsmanship, responsibility, and how to win and lose with grace; skills that extend far beyond the gym and into everyday life.
In her free time, Becky enjoys spending time with her three sons and her grandson, Gabriel. Her oldest son, Sam, is also a University of Memphis graduate. Her middle son, Matthew, is a senior at Bryan College. Her youngest son, Caleb, is a ninth grader at Millington Central Middle High School and participates on the golf and wrestling teams. Between family time, school activities, sports events, and spending as much time as she can with her grandson, her life stays busy and full inside and outside of work.
