Applied for NEH Digital Humanities Advancement Grant, Level II, in co-operation with Dr. Rita Lucarelli (Dept. of Egyptology, UC Berkeley), for the purpose of organizing a conference and workshop to be titled "Toward a Union of Two (Virtual) Lands: Egyptology and the Digital Humanities." Confirmed contributors to the project included Dr. Peter Manuelian (Harvard), Dr. Foy Scalf (U. Chicago), Dr. Elaine Sullivan (UC Santa Cruz), Dr. Willeke Wendrich (UCLA), Marie Svoboda (J. Paul Getty Museum), Dr. Massimo Limoncelli (Catholic University, Milan), and Sebastian Olschok (Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies). Unfortunately, after many months or writing, editing, and co-ordination with speakers and venues, our grant proposal was ultimately unsuccessful. However, feedback from the NEH reviewers ranged from "Excellent" to "Very Good," indicating that our proposal was very strong. Dr. Lucarelli and I have begun plans to re-submit a similar proposal in the next two to three years, using our initial attempt as a guide and foundation. |
