Dr. Yeon Sun (Ellie) Ro is an assistant professor of Early Childhood Education in the Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership at the University of Memphis. She was an assistant professor at the Pennsylvania State University for two years, before joining the University of Memphis, and she earned her Ph.D.at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Her doctoral dissertation was recognized with the Outstanding Dissertation Award by American Educational Research Association (AERA) Division G-Social Context of Education.

Her research focuses on socio-cultural perspectives, generally in early childhood and primary-elementary education, including the provision of effective and meaningful instruction to encourage young learners language and literacy (including multi-lingual-literacy and transnational identity formation) development, which is embedded in daily practices in homes, communities, and schools. No matter how the research agenda may be expanded, her professional and personal endeavor toward early lan/literacy development, diversity inclusion, multi-lingual/-cultural education, and the implementation of technology will endure.

Her papers have been published in the Journal of Research in Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education Journal, Early Child Development and Care, Young Children, Young Exceptional Children, and Pedagogies. She has also been active in disseminating and expanding her scholarly works at numerous national and international conferences including AERA, ACEI, LRA, NAEYC, NCTE, WERA, WRAB etc.
